Originally the tapestry
factory of Beauvais (Manufacture Royale
de Tapis et Tapisseries de Beauvais)
was established in 1664 in Beauvais
(North of France), under the patronage
of Jean-Baptiste Colbert, the powerfull
finance minister of the "Sun" King
Louis the XIV. In fact as several other
tapestry, rugs and furnitures factories
at that time they started by producing
pieces of art in order to furbish the
Versailles Royal palace whith
construction starting around 1668. |
